Sarah Cravens joined the University of Arkansas law faculty as Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development in January 2025, after 20 years of prior service in law teaching and administration. Dean Cravens was previously C. Blake McDowell, Jr. Professor of Law at the University of Akron School of Law, where she also served in various administrative roles, including Interim Co-Dean of the law school, Interim Dean of the Williams Honors College, and Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives. More recently, she has also taught at the University of Tulsa College of Law and Washington and Lee School of Law.
Dean Cravens currently teaches Professional Responsibility, Judicial Ethics, Torts, and Conflict of Laws. She has also taught Constitutional Law, Remedies, and various international law courses. Her areas of scholarly interest include the judicial role, legal ethics, and theology & law. Her recent and forthcoming publications address issues relating to judicial discipline, resignation in lieu of discipline, and international and comparative approaches to the regulation of the judiciary, as well as the role of artificial intelligence in the courts. Dean Cravens is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and currently serves as Chair of the Professional Responsibility Section of the Association of American Law Schools.
In addition to her work as a law faculty member and senior administrator at these and other schools, she has served as a law clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, as an associate at Arnold & Porter LLP in Washington, D.C., and as general counsel both in academia and in private industry. Prof. Cravens received her A.B. from Princeton University, her M.Phil. from Cambridge University, and her J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law.
